Manage Azure Disk Snapshots With Skeddly

Now that we’re all saving money on our Azure bills, it’s time to backup those Azure VM disks. Skeddly now supports the creation and deletion of Azure disk snapshots with our two new actions:

  • Backup Virtual Machines
  • Delete Disk Snapshots

Both of these actions work like their AWS counterparts.

Backup Virtual Machines

With Skeddly’s new “Backup Virtual Machines” action, you can backup one or more virtual machines on your desired schedule. Virtual machines can be selected for backup using many methods:

  • Selecting one or many resource groups
  • Selecting one or many virtual machine names
  • Resource tag matching
  • Combinations of the above

Once virtual machines are selected, all attached disks will have snapshots created and tagged. VMs can be stopped for consistency.

Delete Disk Snapshots

On the opposite side, our new “Delete Disk Snapshots” action is used to delete old snapshots. Likewise, snapshots can be selected by:

  • Selecting one or many resource groups
  • Selecting one or many snapshot names
  • Resource tag matching
  • Combinations of the above

A simple “x” days old delete scheme can be used. We also support more sophisticated “grandfather-father-son” delete schemes such as:

  • Preserve daily snapshots for 7 days
  • Preserve weekly snapshots for 5 weeks
  • Preserve monthly snapshots for 12 months
  • Preserve yearly snapshots after that

And once the snapshots are deleted, a CSV report can be emailed to you.

Full pricing information for these new actions is available on our pricing page.
