Yesterday, Amazon announced hourly pricing for Amazon WorkSpaces.
We evaluated the new hourly usage pricing for WorkSpaces in this post. And while it may not be cost-effective for full “business-hours only” usage, there still are valid use cases for hourly billing.
The new hourly usage pricing does automatically stop your workspace after a pre-determined amount of inactivity. However having a short timeout may impede productivity due to it’s slower start-up and connection time. And having a large timeout will incur extra, unnecessary costs.
Using our new action, you can stop your workspaces at pre-defined times, or in response to CloudWatch events.
Workspaces can be selected using different criteria:
Using this new action, you can configure your workspaces to use a larger timeout value to keep your workspaces alive during the day. This way, you don’t need to worry about being slowed down by a workspace that’s warming up. Then, in the evening you can ensure your workspaces are stopped for the night, before the inactivity timeout.
And using Skeddly to stop your workspace when you’re done with it costs less than leaving the workspace running for a single hour more, which is the minimum timeout period.
This new action is available today. Full pricing for this action can be found on our pricing page.
