Change EBS Volumes Action

Today, we’re excited to announce a new action to manage your EBS volumes: Change EBS Volumes.

This new action is a super-powered version of our older “Grow EBS Volume” action. But with the new action, you can do so much more!

With our new action, you can do the following:

  • Increase a volume’s size
  • Change a volume’s storage type (for example, from magnetic to SSD)
  • Add or change encryption on a volume
  • Modify a volume’s “delete on termination” flag

When increasing a volume’s size, you can choose to add a fixed amount, add a percentage, or specify the final size.

When changing a volume’s storage type, you can choose from Magnetic (standard), SSD (gp2), and Provisioned-IOPS. When changing to Provisioned-IOPS, you can indicate your IOPS value.

When encrypting a volume, you can use the default EBS KMS key (aliased as ‘aws/ebs’), or you can choose your own key from Amazon KMS.

The action can act on:

  • single EBS volumes
  • all EBS volumes in an account
  • EBS volumes that have matching EC2 tags
  • EBS volumes attached to EC2 instances that have matching EC2 tags

The new action is quite flexible. Using the new action, you can do the following:

  • Add 10% more space to your volumes
  • Mass convert all your EBS volumes to SSD
  • Add encryption to your EBS volumes
  • Ensure all your attached EBS volumes have “delete on terminate” set to “on”

Full pricing for this new action can be found on our pricing page.
